FEATURE - THE CR8TIVES

I was asked to be featured by THE CR8TIVES, you can find the full feature here . THE CR8TIVES is an online platform that provides the opportunity for creatives to showcase their talent and connect with others and gain inspiration from others that are like-minded.

What does it take to be an illustrator?
I would say it takes practice, passion and determination.

Do you view your creative ability/process as unusual or unique?
I think that it is very difficult to be unique because someone somewhere has already done something similar however it’s not impossible to be unique. Everyone is influenced by something. I would say I can definitely be “unusual” at times with my creative process. I must always have a hot beverage with caffeine at all times.

As a creative individual, do you believe that you perceive the world differently from other people? Do you think that any “unusual” thought processes are involved when you create something?
I think everyone has their own different perception on the world. I would say that I look at the world creatively with a darker romantic view.
My though processes can be “unusual”, however it depends on what I’m creating, whether it’s for a client or my own personal work. For my own personal work, I can look at something basic whether it’s a face, eyes, colour scheme and it will inspire a complete illustration. I will always be influenced by macabre, romantic and grungy things because that is what inspires me the most. But I can be inspired by anything and everything.

Which creative people do you admire? Why?
Martine Johanna, Laura Laine, David Downton, and Kahori Maki are just a few. I admire these designers for their ability, expression and style in their work.

What person (living or dead) would you like to spend the day with? and why?
Alexander Mcqueen, because he influenced my love of fashion. I would of loved to shadow him for a day.

What is the best advice you have heard? and for creatives starting out what would you say to them?
To never doubt yourself and to always believe in what you are doing. It may sound quite cliché but I would say always keep drawing and believe in yourself. Also be consistent and never be afraid to share your work with the world, positive feedback is worth it and it can be very encouraging. But don’t let the negative feedback discourage you either.

Where do you see yourself in 5 years time?
It is so difficult to predict where I will be in 5 years time because there are so many things I want to do and so many things happening at the moment. Hopefully I will be successful and striving for big things using my creativity. I want my work to have developed and flourished into different areas. I would love to inspire the creative minds that see my work.
